No sound on Linux with Squeak2.8

I know you finally got it working, but I just want to mention that
this sounds like the less-portable of the Linux sound drivers on
my web page.  Perhaps ALSA simply doesn't support mmap() on
/dev/dsp, even with OSS compatibility loaded?
