Thanks for your great help!
I will try your suggestions ASAP. (Unfortunately I am going to be
away from any Squeaking device for 2 weeks, on my way to the
airport for a business trip. Pfff I can't wait to be back)

For the record: the problem happens every time I just simply
start Squeak. The WinCE SH3 version as downloaded from Squeak.org.

Since the same image works fine on my Windows desktop and
I hear people have used it succesfully with other WinCE PDAs, I
lean towards a VM bug on my platform (HP Jornada 690).
