While mastering the class libraries are a challenge, I also think many
users find programming languages with novel expression or statement
evaluation rules challenging.  After all, considering FORTRAN, C, Pascal,
Java, Ada, PL/1, etc, they are basically the same programming language, 
syntactically, with differences in semantics of datatypes, expressions, 
parameter-passing, I/O, and namespace.  People react strongly to 
LISP, SNOBOL4, APL, FORTH, too.  "It looks hard", they say.  Well, they're
different.
