If drag'ndrop isn't working, doesn't a double-click on the VM, with a Squeak.image file (regardless of FILE/TYPE settings) work fine if the data is there, again so you can then save the image automagically?  I have found that to work just fine for most cases.  Alternatively, perhaps we can put a tweak into the image so mac-users can easily change FILE/TYPE of their image files without ResEdit intervention.
