Simply counting bytecodes is so meaningless it makes MIPS seem sensible.

Use a decent benchmark. Failing that, try the squeakified GreenBook
benchmark suite on http://sumeru.stanford.edu/tim/pooters/SqFiles/deltas
- at least it test more than a trivial loop.
