Hi all,

Please find attached an improved version of the scheduling fixes that got into
the image initially as changeset 2023.
I tried to test them in various scenarios, but since they are in a sensitive
area, I would be greatful if some of you would try them out before their
inclusion.

Bob, I noticed that you also touched some of the same methods (from what I can
see only for Morphic). I did my best to merge them, please take a look.
