Obviously, you don't live in California :) Hola is Spanish for hello. As the
etymology showed, holler and hello came from the Old French hola, meaning
"hey there" (la = there -> "Ho there!"). So I thought it was neat that the
most common Spanish greeting "hola" literally heans hey there and is the
origin of hello etc. I always thought it did sound too close to be a
coincident.
