Just now I stopped and waited as I was typing this and it didn't happen. As soon as I started to type it did. I have that little norton disk activity utility installed; it shows icons at the far left of the menu bar when disk access happens, different ones for read and write. It shows the disk activity to be reads! I did hear a few where the icon did not show any activity.

Dave,

I just tried the clink test on a PB G3/400 with System 9.0.2 and did not hear a single repeat in over 50 trials. Some thoughts about disk activity:

- Executing a doIt in Squeak will write the code to the changes file. This may be part of what you see in terms of disk activity.
- What's your memory situation? Is virtual memory on? Could it be an occasional page I/O?
- You mention the norton disk activity utility being installed. Have you tried this with the base extension set? My test was with the base extensions only.

Cheers,
Bob
