This is probably common knowledge (as is the spelling!), but I've heard that the name Smalltalk originated from:

1) It was a language designed with children in mind
2) That is what it evoked as people talked about the new OO concepts at cocktail parties in the early buzzy development years

I suspect it was 1)?
