Palm III distro launched

Empower Technologies have released a free demo of a Linux upgrade for
Palm IIIx and IIIxe handhelds. Linux DA O/S is claimed to the first
port to the Motorola Dragonball CPU and to be fully compatible with
Palm hardware. The stated aim of Empower is to create a hardware
vendor independent consumer device OS.

Sun choose Linux for handheld

Sun has created a Linux handheld for internal use by field engineers.
The Field Information Appliance, which cost under $10 million to
develop, is expected to pay for itself in about six months. Red Hat
tailored the Linux kernel, and Sun's own engineers tweaked a Java
virtual machine for the device.

finally, Adobe gets super-tough:

E-book developer faces jail sentence thanks to DMCA

Dmitry Sklyarov is in an American prison without bail and faces
another five years there, despite not being a US citizen. He wrote
software that allows e-book buyers to make back-ups. Adobe demanded
that the FBI arrest him under the DMCA when he visited the US to speak
at a conference.
