[newbie] Complex boolean value?

Why does the test seem strange? I tried programming the famous "who gets
the last match" game (also called NIM) and "value" was number of matches
the human wants to take. So "value" is invalid if it's 1) smaller than
1, 2) larger than the number of remaining matches, or 3) larger than the
maximum number of matches to be taken in one turn.
