Without knowing anything about the jpeg reader, my guess is that this is
caused by the color map of the Form that is created from the jpeg file. The
standard Squeak color map/form convention for 8 bits is to treat 0 as
transparent, whereas other formats usually encode black as 0.

This problem does not only arise with jpegs.
