Me too! Have you tried Bob Arning's UIComponentMorph? 
I've found them to be a fast way to get functional
widgets laid out initially but there are still issues
regarding the window. Perhaps Bob can shed some light
on the SystemWindow quirks since he chose to
UIWindowMorph independent of SystemWindow.
