Why using attachements/uuencode at all?
it should be easy to encode and decode binaries to
base64, putting 'SQUEAK-ENCODED!' '!END-SQUEAK-ENCODED'
around and having a tool to extract then?
squeak-encode a file and paste it to the mailer.
copy whole mail and paste it to SqueakMailDecoderMorph.

would be also nice because of web-searched mailing lists
without atachement support.
just 'copy all' in browser :)
