Feeling adventurous, I tried building squeak from source. I was using
GCC 3.1 with the option --build=athlon-pc-linux-gnu. 

It builds, installs, and loads but it flakes out after only a few
seconds, other visual anomolies too. It said something about not being
able to truncate an integer or something. =\ 

I will probably have to go back to the binary distro, any other
suggestions?
