[ANN][VM][SF] my Unix patches integrated into SF layout

Lex, could you tarball your platforms tree and post it somewhere or email 
it to me privately, please?  I am having a hell of a time with CVS and 
SF.  It seems to be down for the moment.   I have been using the platforms 
tarball from Tim, but things seem to have moved beyond this point.
