Well, it's not what you want to hear, but I've just tried it in 3.3a and
it works as you'd expect (that's to say, the complete new instance of
the composite morph moves as one). I've got a vague memory of
encountering similar problems in 2.7 (or was it 2.8?). I think at some
point the copy (or maybe deep copy) stuff changed pretty radically,
which may account for it.
