Thanks!  You've saved me a distraction.  (It's like xmas come early. ;-)

I'll apply the selection mods right away.  For the mouse wheel I'll
reverse the CTRL beaviour (so that holding it down scrolls the selection
point instead of the pane).

But I would still like to hear from people what the most popular mouse
wheel behaviour would be.
