Ian, are you willing to work with the SourceForge VM? If not - why not? Is
there something we can do to reconcile differences? 

Personally, I think the advantages of being able to cooperate on the major VM
ports outweigh anything, so as far as I'm concerned the SF VM should be the
official VM. With CVS available and working fine over the Internet, there's no
reason an open source project should have to rely on mailing patches to
someone who is probably busy with more useful things than running 'patch'...
