I personally downloaded a tar from the website and extracted it in my home. 
After that I copied the binaries into a new and shorter named dir called 
squeak/bin (the bins are in usr/local/lib/squeak/[version]. After that I used 
"~/squeak/bin/squeak ~/squeak/myImage.image".
