space-filling subpanes of panes

Ack! :)

Why am I having so much trouble making a subpane "paneB" of a pane "paneA" of a SystemWindow fill its LayoutFrame?

I've done:

    paneA setProperty: #autoFitContents toValue: true

and

    paneB
        hResizing: #spaceFill;
        vResizing: #spaceFill

What am I missing?  Help!
