I believe this problem will be fixed with a newer VM.  Unfortunately you
need a VM newer than what is currently available in compiled form.  At
http://people.squeakfoundation.org/person/KenCausey/diary.html?start=0
you will find some quick notes on building a VM which should work for
you.
