I'm likely to get one too. Here's what I hope the software setup is
like:

1. ssh and/or telnet access (via a private IP address) is live when I
    plug it in and

2. XF86Config is ready to go except for HorizSync & VertRefresh.

I'm expecting to get (at least) the root password of the box.

For $250 it's probably unreasonable to expect more; on the other hand,
Squeak is free and we've all come to expect a lot from it. It should
be easy to get going; I'd just like to know what it'll be like. I'd
rather use startx in the beginning.

If I have to I can scrounge an old monitor/keyboard/mouse to act as an
interface. However, the simplest thing I can think of is plugging an
ethernet cable in and using my current desktop.

I haven't asked a question yet, rats! Is 1 or 2 correct? I'm very
interested in a sentence from http://minnow.cc.gatech.edu/squeak/3502
as well.

"Michael will be putting all his Linux scripts and documentation out
in the next couple of days (link goes here, Mike, when you are
   ready)."
