Derek, is that cifs server, like in Samba CIFS (Common Internet  
FileSystem) was SMB (Server Message Block)?

Are you file sharing to the world maybe? You should check to see what  
services you are running, or think you are running.

Email me (not the list, watch that reply button (eh tim?)) the listing  
from a ps -axl.
I'll compare against my machine.
