Yes!  And the Blue button, the "meta click," does just that!  It 
a)does what a single click does -- select the object, and...
b)plus an extension: a halo!

So, in effect, "opening up" the object, or a least preparing it to
be "opened" in various ways.

So I think double-click fits perfectly into your classic definition
of a double-click, which I agree with.
