R: Newbie question: How to add a link and open browser?

The link seems to work fine if the text is in a scrolling text area.
If the url is in the simple Text Area, url seems not working at all
("[No hidden info]", ...)
Does anybody know the reason of this effect?

Try selecting the following text, hitting Cmd-6, then converting to URL
