I wonder if might be nicer to build this on top of HTTP rather than
XML-RPC?  Just a more sophisticated webserver, that sends out
notifications on PUTs, provides fine grained access control, etc (and
happens to know that its documents are always going to be Monticello
versions).

Just a thought...
