Yes, your display depth is probably 32.

The icons don't get displayed when the display depth is 32. This is a 
bug of some sort but no one has stepped up to fix it. I believe that 
Andreas suggested that this was due to their use of alpha blending, 
but we haven't had anyone offer a fix yet.
