Hi

  I took 5278 after creating by hand the sm directory that was missing 
(I imagine that the problem has been fixed), I thought my system was 
frozen. It took 5 s before soemthing happened visually, So may be 
changing the cursor to indicate that the system is doing something in 
the back would be good. I was nearly interrupting it when the list of 
packages showed up.
