There is a FAQ item about the ctrl/alt/etc. modifier keys, which includes the
helpful hint about setting the preference to use Ctrl instead of Alt for these
operations:

I suppose the question about copy/paste/etc. is common enough that it might
deserve its own FAQ item. It's not obvious at all to a newcomer that a
different modifier key would be used by default.
I notice that the Squeak FAQ is being overhauled right now... looks pretty
good for the most part!
