File locking primitives?

Hi,

Just for fun, I ported OmniBase tonight. The biggest issue that is
currently lacking is file locking primitives - one of the nicer things
is that you can attach multiple images to a single database, but
OmniBase needs to be able to locks files (byte ranges) in order to do
that. As far as I can see, the current VM does not support locking - are
there patches roaming the net? If not, would someone be inclined to help
me add it for non-posix platforms?

(related question: I *could* ask David to release this Squeak port;
you'd get the non-commercial version which lacks garbage collection, so
your database becomes 'grow-only'. The commercial version has GC and
costs some 400 dollars per developer seat. Given these conditions, is
there interest in OmniBase under Squeak?)
