Snapshots need to write the whole system to disk. That is the idea behind 
System prevalence. That may result in big snapshot files but that is the 
price to pay for fault tolerance. You can vary the time between snapshots to 
meet your needs. If you have big systsms and less wirting commands you can 
snapshot once a week or so. But then the whole cluch.
