Or, for that matter, the Alpha. IIRC, it has a piece set aside 
that's programmable with microcode; it was used (my experience with
the Alpha goes back to the earliest days) to add a useful subset
of VAX instructions in order to facilitate the port at boot time.

I think this bit of the Alpha is well-documented.
