Take a look a these papers. The open university has done this kind of stuff
but with learning works. You may get a few ideas.

Subject: Creating a Custom Image

Hello,
I'm at University and wanna see if I can change the default Smalltak
used for OOP teaching from Dolphin to Squeak. My reasons includes the
long list of SO supported by Squeak, and the fact that it's Open Source.
Any other argument to give me the reason in front of my professor is
welcome.
My question is where could I go to learn how to create a custom image,
in fact, to take out some of the things in default image we'll never use
and maybe put in a little bit of eye candy.
The image will be intended to be fast, and small, if someone falls in
love with squeak, he could take the full image, but thus image has to be
simple an instructive.
I didn't even know what classes are indispensable for the basic image to
work and to use it as a programming enviroment.
But I'm not afraid to read and broke an image or two... or a hundred ;)

Thanks In Advance
