Yeah, I start to see tallies around there too.  So is this a red herring?
Why does an infinite recursion seem to never be preemptable on Linux, but
is so easily interrupted (either by alt-. or by a higher priority process)
on Mac OS X?

Again, I know nothing about the internals here, I'm just flailing around
