Ups... maybe I'm confusing two different bugs: 3.4 shouldn't show
the problem with the 5501 update, as this is (I think) caused
by the Ephemerons changes, which are in ian's 3.6, but not
in 3.4

(I'm actually using John's Mac vm, so no problems here anyway ;-)
