I really think the right thing to do is to change the VMs. This is only
a problem with the image change that dropped the ioProcess (ie 3.7) and
we'd want new VM releases then anyway for various fixes (like objects
as methods working properly etc). Old images will continue to work as
before on the newer vm, new iamges will work and new images on older
vms wil have the same troubles as always. IIRC we never claim to be
able to support new image on old vm even though it often works
tolerably.
