enhancements to wonderland and B3D sensible?

Andreas,

==========================
Since I don't know your concrete constraints it's impossible for me to
answer a question like "what is more sensible". However, methinks that
putting "some effort" into fixing Wonderland's lights is a lot less work
than trying to extract "just the 3D engine" from Croquet - this may very
well turn out to be impossible and I don't think any of the Croqueteers is
even going to try (what would be the point?).
==========================

It's a little difficult to answer that based on some fiddling with a very old alpha version of Croquet, but I would suspect that there is good reason to want to bring 3D to the user w/o taking the user into 3D, or something like that.

Certainly, I know users who would have no patience for "driving around inside" a program; those same users could easily benefit from 3D presentations embedded in a dirt-simple 2D interface.

If it turns out that Croquet can, with minimal overhead, work just like Squeak with a Wonderland or two visible, then I would agree that there is no point. If however, one pays the full price regardless of whether the user "takes the plunge", then I too would be interested in seeing Squeak have an improved interface to 3D graphics courtesy of the work you have done on Croquet.

Besides, if one cannot mine Croquet for the benefit of Squeak, then is not one or the other project a fork?

BTW, I wouldn't care if it were not for the slickness of Croquet's approach to 3D graphics. It would seem a shame to make that an all or nothing proposition. One could probably make a similar argument about the collaboration aspects of Croquet being of great potential value to 2D users.
