Which PDA to run the PDAMorphic ?

The stock PDAMorph doesn't run on a PDA very well- unless you're using a
very high res device (640x480) like the Zaurus C-series or Toshiba e800.
Otherwise you can't get nearly everything on the screen at once, and what
is there is horribly cramped.

But as for running Squeak on PDAs- I reccomend getting a PocketPC or a
Zaurus C-series. What model you get is entirely dependent on what you
want to do with it and how much you want to spend. Let's make a flowchart!

Price Range:
I. ~ US$200
Want to use it as a PDA outside of Squeak, with a lot of end-user
friendly applications?
  A. Yes: Dell Axim, or other lower-end PocketPC; you can get one with a
lot of CPU power and memory for pretty cheap.
  B. No: Avoid the Sharp Zaurus SL-5x00 series unless you like a really
bad screen and battery life.. Runs Squeak well, though.

II. US $200 - 400
Want to use it as a PDA outside of Squeak, with a lot of end-user
friendly applications?
  A. Yes: A higher end PocketPC, perhaps something with built-in wifi.
No outstanding reccomendations in this field as far as I'm concerned, no
cheaper VGA PPC models.
  B. No: Get a Sharp Zaurus SL-C700 or SL-C750 used. These make awesome
machines for running Squeak, but fall short as a regular PDA... At least,
a long-time Newton user like myself expects certain things to work
half-way well. If you're a long-time Windows 95 user you may get along
with it fine outside of Squeak, though.

III. US $400 +
Want to use it as a PDA outside of Squeak, with a lot of end-user
friendly applications?
  A. Yes: A Toshiba e800. VGA screen, like the Zaurus, but without the
drawbacks of the Z.
  B. No: Go top 'o the line: Zaurus SL-C750, C760 or C860, either used or
new. You might end up spending $700, but they're nice machines for
running Squeak. Also of note is the new Zaurus SL-6000 series. Same specs
as a C760, but with built-in wifi and bluetooth, crappier battery and a
little larger. But at least you don't have to carry a bunch of CF cards
around!

Bottom line? If I wanted a PDA *just* for Squeaking, but didn't want to
spend a tremendous amount of cash, I'd go for a used SL-C750 or SL-C700
from conics.net.

Aaron
