I wanted to add a BitTorrent dowload later. And the ftp will stay, too. 
No
problem with bandwith at ira.uka.de.

As for the DVD, the plan was to not make it available for download, as 
I don't
think is is practical to download (or host) a file that large.

But jigdo seems to be an option that would make it possible, I guess. 
With splitting
over multiple servers.... on the other hand, it does not provide any 
BittTorrent-like P2P
traffic optimizations.
