TestRunner in 3.8 -- ARGH!!!

I have - it seems to fix the background issues but now there are some other 
extremely strange things happening for me (which don't happen in 3.6).

Or, perhaps, the resource would be able to run individual tests in the 
*background*. All tests can be run in the foreground and a *few* can be run 
in the background. Seems to me that therefore the default ought to be to run 
tests in the foreground unless otherwise specified.
