That is sad.  I posted a awk-agnostic gnuify script years ago along with
edits to the configure scripts to use any awk it finds and not insist on
GNU awk.  I guess it slipped through the cracks.

Anyway, you'll certainly want to install GNU awk as Bert suggests, if
that's the only way to get the gnuified interp.c.
