Reminder: I built with gcc 4. (Debian 4.0.1-2).

Another factoid: I repeated this on another machine and forgot to
reset the output directory to scr from src32.  I ran config using the
--with-src=src32 option, but that wasn't sufficient to fix the
problem.  It's possible there was some remnant of my previous attempt
(without that option) still lying around to mess things up.
