Mmm, I question this statement and ask this question : is it possible
to unify a producing and learning environment into the same
environment ? It seems to me that Squeak allows such an unification,
because learning never ends, even when you produce. Tools,
environments, should give to users a way to learn about themselves.

We are extensively using the BotInc environment here with 18-20 years
old students. I like to call it SqueakTurtle, because its philosophy
is quite near from LOGO interfaces. You could see some sequences we
have designed to learn OO concepts (in French sorry :
http://www.iutc3.unicaen.fr/serge/SergeStinckwich/AlgorithmiqueProgrammationIUT/TravauxDirig%E9esEtPratiques20042005)

For instance, we start with an outside game called Romeo and Juliette,
where the goal is to allow romeo and juliette to meet - a
*collaborative* game where two teams give orders to their characters,
in that way : romeo do three steps... Then from the natural language,
we propose to students to invent a more specific and efficient
language before introducing the smalltalk language (quite close to the
natural language).

Another squeakence, euh sequence ;-), is "Alice In Wonderland" where
Alice is invited by the Queen of Hearts for the tea time, and we
propose to students to write a tea time script where objects are able
to talk with each others, tea cup, teaspoon, sugar, Alice etc... The
aim of this sequence is to make students discover that Squeak is like
Wonderland : all objects could communicate with each others...

Ok, there is other sequences, like the Bots Island and so one, if you
are interested, I could translate some ! Do you have some materials or
a web site ? Oh yes, we are working too on a Squeak Role Playing Game
(RPG) : the aim is to give a plateform where students could design
their own RPG and use easily in this framework the multimedia features
of Squeak... We try this experience this year, and students reported
that it was really funny for them ! So we are working now with
students on such a plateform.

Regards,
Samir
