>From Monday June, 6th until August, 31st is the deadline to present
Papers for everyone who may interest to take part in the II Free
Software International Conference – International Meeting of Free
Knowledge that will be holded in Mérida (Extremadura, SPAIN) during the
days of October, 25th and 26th organized by Junta de Extremadura
(Regional Government of Extremadura) and Junta de Andalucía (Regional
Government of Andalucía)

The conference placed in Mérida will revolve around the universalization
of knowledge in a wider definition and in its diverse possibilities.
Free Knowledge as free software it's a good whose universalization
allows the development and advance of our Society in all aspects and
fields.

The Subject Matter of the Conference are due in four fields:
Universalization of Knowledge related to Culture, Art, Philosophy and
Social aspects; Political framework related to the different experiences
and strategies of Public Administrations and Institutions about free
software; Free Software Economy aimed at business sector and finally;
Technological Development and Innovation of Free Software related to the
technical contributions in this field.

In the near future, the website of the Conference will be working and
you will be able to do the registration for the event, as well as the
monitoring of all the news and documentation related to the Conference.

This Meeting expects showing Free Software as a consolidated reality, as
a key tool for the Knowledge Society Development, in its double role:
technological role and social role. Universalizing the ICT's.

The use of Free Software and the use Technological Open Standards
provides Freedom and technological independency, these are fundamental
aspects that we have to bear in mind overalls by the people in charge of
the Society's Development. Because the Society must parctice solidarity
for everybody.

Extremadura, in the development of its global strategy on Information
Society, is applying free software in all fields: Education, Businesses,
Citizens, with the firm conviction that the use of this kind of software
by the Public Administrations it's more than anything a question of a
rational and efficient use of public funds, and it's a question of
rights, since it guarantees the access of everybody to this technology,
pure knowledge, on equal terms.
