Hi all,

What is the best way to get a current image for
smallland?

And what is needed in general to keep up with
smallland progress?

----------------

Background:

If you are following the progress of 3.10 you will see
that it has hit a hitch due to fonts and font tests.

See:

0005309: [Bug][Fix] Under certain conditions returning
from a MVC project will hang indefinitely.

http://bugs.squeak.org/view.php?id=5309

and follow the references from there.

The meta problem comes from the history.

3.9 included both 3.8 updates and smallland updates.
There were, of course, no resources to check or
reconcile the two.

A bug was found. A serious bug. I made an attempt to
contact the codes author (no response). I fixed things
using the bugs code as a guide. And I wrote a test to
prove the fix worked.

Of course with no understanding of fonts and only
broken code to look at the patch was way off the mark.

The test was a good one because it helped cause
nothing but problems until Ralph had to give it a good
look. And pull Andreas into the problem. Andreas's
knowledge was enough to show us less knowledgable the
error of our ways. And he suggested a fix.

But didn't 3.8 and oplc also have the problem? The
original bug was from their coders. So I have looked
at a recent oplc image and the offending method had
indeed been fixed.

So now I am curious, how did smallland avoid the
problem?

Unspoken is the meta-problem:

How do we reconcile and use the fixes from the
branches and forks of squeak?

Thank you for your help.

Yours in curiousity and service, --Jerome Peace
