There is a plugin for TIFF reading/writin by John M. McIntosh. It's a
bit obsolete but it was initially developed for Mac, IIUC. Can it
somehow help you with your problem? I'm asking because I'm really
interested in making this plugin work on other platforms. As for now I
managed to run it on Linux, and will try to do the same on Windows as
time permits.
