Thanks, Bernardo. That's got it.

Load FileTree. Then you can create choose the filetree:// repo type in 
MC instead of HTTP.
Then you can select a package and save. Then I get something like 
Collections-Native.pkg on my Mac.
Show Package Contents and you see the directories and files. Pretty cool.
