[squeak-dev] Somehow I have gotten a white area at the bottom of the screen that I can type in, what is it and how do I get rid of it?

That is the output console. I'm not sure typing there will do anything (but
not sure). You can go to the VM menu (outside window menu), VM Preferences
-> Debug Output -> Show Output Console to toggle this.
