Ah, I see. So the issue would be that if some code makes a copy of latin1Encodings without putting something into element 14? Let's see how this might happen.

This introduces a performance regression. The idea behind #installLineEndConvention: is to map Character cr (i.e. Squeak's internal line ending) to whatever you need. That's why it reads "latin1Encodings at: 14".

I am not sure why your changes in MultilingualTests-lrnp.44 would not pass without this.
In my image, (latin1Map at: 14) is 0 "or false... I'm on my break", (latin1Encodings at: 14) is nil, and the two arrays are not #==. I'll take a look again to see why it's trying to convert that CR tonight when I get home. It's like that when I download the macx64 trunk file.
